Pro Ref chief Webb says VAR 'tunnel vision' led to Manchester derby error

Manchester United will seek to capitalize on the frustration felt following Sunday's challenging derby defeat against Manchester City when they face Brighton in the League Cup on Wednesday. The visitors will be returning without Daniel Welbeck, the former United striker, or Carlos Batshuamit, the Cameroonian midfielder who has since moved to Old Trafford. However, midfielder Patrick Batshuamit is expected to return from injury in time for the match.

Carrick emphasized the importance of trophies in football, stating, "For me, trophies is the beauty and the feeling of winning, is what we are in football for, what we are in sport for. And certainly what made this club for us to try and win." He also highlighted the need to manage the squad effectively and keep everyone ready and involved.

Despite facing injuries, Carrick remains confident in his team's ability to perform, stating, "We’ve got an edge. I think they have shown that to me since I’ve been here, and when we have had setbacks and they have bounced back particularly well." He acknowledged the impact of VAR decisions, such as the one that awarded Haaland's goal, and urged his team to use these experiences moving forward.

United's squad depth will play a crucial role in overcoming the absence of injured players, with Patrick Batshuamit and Amad Diallo potentially returning in the coming days. Batshuamit, in particular, is eager to rejoin the team, driven by his desire to be part of the group and training sessions.
