Police to fully roll out automated traffic enforcement from October 1

The Ghana Police Service will commence full deployment of its automated traffic enforcement system, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1, 2026, according to a recent announcement. The initiative aims to tackle road discipline issues and increase adherence to Ghana's traffic laws and regulations. TRAFFITECH-GH employs cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offenses and facilitate the enforcement of road traffic regulations.

When drivers commit offenses, they will receive electronic notices via SMS, outlining the specific violation and associated details. Before the issuance of Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) to vehicle owners or drivers, the police will review the detected traffic violations. The ENV will specify the committed offense and the applicable fine.

The police have urged motorists, drivers, and owners to strictly follow road traffic regulations and support the rollout of the automated enforcement program. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance road safety, reduce traffic crashes and casualties nationwide. Motorists are advised to acquaint themselves with TRAFFITECH-GH's requirements prior to its full implementation on October 1, 2026.
