PM Shehbaz orders free SMS registration for petrol subsidy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has mandated that registration for the government’s fuel subsidy scheme, aimed at motorcycle, rickshaw and low-emission vehicle owners, can be done via SMS at no cost. This decision was made during a crucial meeting to assess the rollout of the PM Special Relief Scheme. The prime minister emphasized the need for a comprehensive awareness campaign across various media platforms to ensure the scheme reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Initial reports indicate that over 600,000 SMS registrations have already been received in the Islamabad region alone, with 42,933 successful registrations. To register, individuals must provide their CNIC number, vehicle number plate, province of residence, and vehicle registration date. The scheme will commence in Islamabad on September 15, with nationwide eligibility from September 16, offering relief to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan regions. Prime Minister Sharif also tasked Islamabad’s administration and volunteers across the country to assist citizens with the registration process and other necessary formalities.

The meeting included key officials such as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and representatives from the Information and Petroleum ministries.
