Plants vs. Zombies: The Board Game Prepares to Launch on Kickstarter

PopCap's popular Plants vs. Zombies video game series is transitioning to a tabletop board game format, developed by Mantic Games. The project will debut on Kickstarter on October 14. Mantic, known for adapting IPs like Worms, Halo, and The Walking Dead, describes the game as "a fast-paced co-op tabletop game that captures the comedy and chaos of the series."

The game will involve 1-4 players working together to overcome increasingly challenging levels, each with unique setups, objectives, and zombie hordes. The game incorporates card-based mechanics, featuring Plant cards with unique effects such as Peashooter plants or exploding Cherry Bombs, Tool cards like shovels for reorganizing defenses, and Zombie cards that move them closer to your home.

Players must play all Zombie cards simultaneously, adding tension and chaos to each game. New Plants, Zombies, and challenges will be unlocked throughout, with each level presenting a fresh zombie horde. The game ends if any zombies reach the house. Mantic is also preparing a Deluxe Edition with pre-assembled miniatures of favorite Plants and Zombies, along with a Night Edition standalone expansion featuring additional content. The last Plants vs. Zombies game was 2024's free-to-play mobile game, Plants vs. Zombies 3.
