Planet Labs wins €25M German satellite contract

Planet Labs PBC, a satellite technology company, has secured a significant €25 million satellite services contract from the German Federal Ministry of the Interior. This five-year agreement makes Germany the first civil government globally to adopt Planet's dedicated Constellation Services. The Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) will manage and distribute high-resolution imagery, nationwide Planet Mosaics, and advanced geospatial analytics to German civil government entities.

Planet will offer exclusive dedicated satellite tasking and provide a cloud-native software-as-a-service platform, all while adhering to European data privacy regulations and security standards. This contract follows a long-standing partnership between Planet and BKG since 2021, which has been supporting over 400 federal institutions in Germany.

The expanded agreement aims to create a unified data layer for decision-makers in areas such as urban planning, forest and water monitoring, agricultural, and land-use assessments. Planet's European headquarters have been in Berlin for over a decade, and the company plans to relocate to a new facility later this fall, which will consolidate satellite manufacturing, engineering, mission operations, data processing, and AI analytics operations.

The contract includes options and has a maximum value of €25 million over five years. This development does not alter Planet's previously announced financial guidance for the current fiscal year, which was provided on September 3, 2026.
