Phiphat denies Bhumjaithai link to Senate collusion case

Bangkok, September 15, 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn affirmed on Tuesday that the Bhumjaithai Party had no connection to the alleged Senate election collusion case, dismissing allegations that individuals named by the Election Commission were part of his political circle. The Deputy Prime Minister met with reporters at Government House prior to chairing a Cabinet meeting.

The Election Commission had decided not to pursue prosecution against Bhumjaithai executive committee members involved in the Senate collusion case. Phiphat initially avoided commenting on the matter, stating it had no bearing on him. However, when reporters probed regarding claims linking prosecution cases with his network, Phiphat took a firm stance.

"We have to make it clear that I have nothing to do with the senators," he declared, emphasizing Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's repeated statements that Bhumjaithai played no role in the controversy.

Phiphat's response to allegations that specific individuals were part of his political base or network was that political figures typically maintain friendships across different political factions. "As politicians, it is normal for us to have friends. I am not denying that we know each other, but we cannot support or assist them," he clarified.

When asked if he felt relieved after the Election Commission's decision, which had been repeatedly raised by opposition parties, Phiphat stated that the opposition could continue to pursue the matter. "That is their right," he affirmed, again stressing the non-interference of Bhumjaithai in Senate affairs.

Regarding his communication with Deputy Interior Minister Worasilp Liangprasert, whose father is among those referred for prosecution, Phiphat indicated he had not spoken with him yet. He also mentioned that he had not yet discussed the issue with Anutin, Bhumjaithai's leader, due to the Prime Minister's recent official assignment in Vietnam.

Phiphat addressed the opposition's plan to raise the Senate collusion case during a no-confidence debate, expressing no concern. "You debate us. We have to answer with the truth," he stated. Finally, asked about the government's ability to proceed smoothly once the issue was resolved, Phiphat deferred the question to the Prime Minister.
