PGA Tour not contemplating path back for LIV players similar to Brooks Koepka

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp stated on Tuesday that the organization is not currently considering a program to bring back golfers from LIV Golf, unlike the initiative they launched for top players like Brooks Koepka. The future of LIV Golf remains uncertain after the circuit filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week, as it transitions to a new model no longer supported by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund.

The outcome of how many players will remain in LIV 2.0 is yet to be determined, along with potential destinations for those players. Koepka left LIV Golf at the end of last year and was offered a return to the PGA Tour through a "returning member program." PGA Tour CEO Rolapp extended the same opportunity to Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith, all major champions since 2022, providing them a three-week deadline to accept, with no guarantee of future offers.

Rolapp emphasized that the current focus is on what is best for the PGA Tour organization, adopting a meritocratic approach to player eligibility. In the new model, players must earn their places, with Koepka required to make a $5 million charity donation and be ineligible for PGA Tour signature events and equity grants for five years.

Rahm, with one year remaining on his LIV contract, is uncertain about his future as the legal proceedings in the bankruptcy case continue. PGA Tour CEO Rolapp aims to make the PGA Tour the ultimate destination in golf, featuring a Championship Series with stronger fields and higher purses. Two players, Patrick Reed and Eugenio Chacarra, who were once in LIV Golf, can return to the PGA Tour by earning 10 tour cards available through the European Tour, as their one-year ban has expired.

Bernd Wiesberger of Austria is also eligible for a card. The PGA Tour has not disclosed the number of cards they will offer to European Tour members, as negotiations for an alliance providing those cards are ongoing.
