Penyatuan ummah perlu diperluas luar PAS, Umno, kata Tuan Ibrahim

Umno and PAS are currently focusing on uniting Malay people to maintain their political power as the main agenda ahead of the 2016 General Election (PRU16), according to Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, the Deputy President of PAS. He stated that extending the scope of interfaith unity to include other parties beyond just Umno and PAS is necessary, as limiting the scope to just these two parties risks excluding other groups that also play a role in society.

With the changing political landscape and the increasing number of young voters, a new, more inclusive political framework that can address future challenges is needed. Younger generations should not be bound by the history and political divisions of previous generations; instead, they want to see solutions for future problems rather than merely rehashing past conflicts, he added in a statement.

Tuan Ibrahim emphasized that historical differences, political approaches, and agendas among parties should not hinder unity, but rather should be addressed with wisdom without sacrificing individual identities. Furthermore, the framework should boldly tackle major national issues such as softening inter-communal politics, national cohesion weakness, corruption, abuse of power, and cartels.

Following their collaboration in the PRN elections for Johor and Negeri Sembilan, Umno and PAS have made uniting Malay people as the main focus of their campaign for the 2016 PRU16. However, during the Umno Kedah's General Assembly meeting last weekend, Umno's Kedah Head of Information Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin reportedly said that Umno Kedah wants to initiate political cooperation talks with PAS ahead of PRU16, but not with Perikatan Nasional, referring to the existence of a 'cat party' within it.

He did not name the party. At the same meeting, Umno Deputy Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh said his wing was ready to welcome the call from Pemuda PAS to hold the Mega Unity Ummah Conference.
