Oyo enforces anti-open grazing law, impounds 10 cows

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority has impounded ten cows in the Arola area of Apete, Ibadan, over alleged illegal open grazing and environmental nuisance. The enforcement operation, carried out in collaboration with security operatives, was prompted by a resident petition and complaints about cattle rearing, animal waste, noise, air pollution, and open grazing in a densely populated neighbourhood.

After visiting the area, the enforcement team confirmed the complaints were substantiated and impounded eight cows at the location. Two additional cows were seized later while tied down and grazing along the route. The Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019, prohibits open rearing and grazing, and the action aims to ensure compliance and protect residents from environmental, health, and public safety risks.
