Opposition parties dismiss king’s speech as road to stagnation

Opposition parties have criticized the Dutch government's speech by King Willem-Alexander, accusing it of leading the nation towards "stagnation." The king emphasized the importance of "communality" to combat polarization and suggested solutions for issues like nitrogen pollution, housing crisis, and asylum-related social unrest.

However, opposition leaders like Joost Eerdmans and Jesse Klaver argued that the government lacked a clear vision and initiative, failing to make choices. Jesse Klaver claimed the cabinet was "rudderless" as the minority government struggles to agree on the country's direction. The opposition also expressed concern over the coalition parties' inability to reach a budget deal, with Mirjam Bikker stating that without direction, only minor concessions will be made.

Critics like Geert Wilders of the far-right PVV accused the king's speech of neglecting fundamental issues such as the rising cost of living, accusing the government of spending too much on Europe, development aid, and climate issues while struggling to pay its bills.
