One-year-old child dies after falling into borehole in Uasin Gishu

A one-year-and-nine-month-old boy tragically lost his life after falling into a shallow borehole in Kirinjoni village, Chepkongony Sub-location, Plateau Location, Ainabkoi Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County. On Monday, September 14, 2026, around 3:15pm, police arrived at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of the child near the borehole. Neighbors attempted to revive the child, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The body was then transported to the Plateau Mission Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

In a separate incident, a 49-year-old woman named Emejen Erith passed away after accidentally falling into a borehole while drawing water in Huruma Estate, Baragoi, Samburu North Sub-County. On Sunday, September 13, 2026, Erith, a resident of Huruma Estate, slipped and fell into the borehole while fetching water. Police officers responded to the scene and, with the help of local residents, recovered her body.

Initial reports suggest that Erith had slipped headfirst into the borehole, resulting in physical injuries to her right shoulder. Her body was taken to Baragoi Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation prior to an autopsy.

Lastly, a 100-year-old woman named Beatrice Mukawaiti died after her one-room timber house caught fire in Gautine village, Maara Sub-County. Mukawaiti lived alone in the house situated in Mugumango Location, Mukui Sub-Location. According to police, she was last seen alive at around 6:30pm, when she was lighting a fire near her bed to stay warm.

Upon her death, her body was entirely charred and could not be identified by anyone other than her son. The mortuary at Chuka Level 5 County Hospital received her remains for autopsy and final disposition, while the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
