Ogun 2027: Yayi, Hunye clash over Ekiti origin claim

The All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi, and his party member Abayomi Hunye are embroiled in a controversy over claims regarding Adeola's true state of origin. Hunye, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently accused Adeola and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello of making libelous statements about his Ekiti heritage on national television without any evidence.

In response to these allegations, Adeola threatened to sue Hunye and Marcus-Bello, giving them 24 hours to provide evidence or face legal action for their widely disseminated claims. Adeola has accused Marcus-Bello of lying about the locations of his parents' graves, describing their statements as an attempt to support a false narrative.

Hunye responded by welcoming the threatened lawsuit and asserting that the issue of a candidate's origin and eligibility is a constitutional matter, not a private one. He argued that truth is an absolute defense against libel and challenged Adeola to bring evidence in court rather than resorting to threats and publicity stunts. Both sides are now preparing for legal battles, with Hunye confident that he will present robust evidence to disprove Adeola's claims.
