Obi tasks Anambra govt to prove he left debts behind, urges UNN to release certificate

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has challenged the Anambra State government to provide evidence that his administration left behind unpaid debts, salaries, pensions, or contractor liabilities. In a statement on his official social media page, Obi dismissed claims by the Anambra State government regarding inherited debts, including a N2 billion ecological loan, as false.

He stated that his administration cleared historical gratuities and arrears worth over N35 billion, paid contractors for completed projects, and left no outstanding salaries or pension obligations. Concerning the ecological fund, Obi explained that the N2 billion was released about three months before his tenure ended to address the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis, but he refused to spend it, leaving it for his successor.

The fund was distinct from the more than N75 billion in savings Obi claims his administration left behind.

Obi further stated that if anyone can prove otherwise, he would stop campaigning for the presidency. Additionally, Obi expressed his willingness to release his academic records and other official documents to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as requested by a legal action seeking certified true copies of his certificates and educational documents.

He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, particularly for those seeking public office, while urging other presidential candidates to make their educational qualifications and relevant records available for public scrutiny.
