New information uncovered on Trump assassination attempt in Butler, says A-G Blanche

Attorney-General Todd Blanche disclosed fresh details regarding the shooter involved in the assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump during a press briefing on Tuesday. Blanche revealed new information about the shooter's background and history, which were previously unknown. The would-be assassin, Thomas Crooks, targeted Trump with eight shots from a rifle fired from a nearby rooftop during the 2024 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Crooks was subsequently killed by a Secret Service sniper.

Shortly before Blanche's statements, Trump lashed out at the FBI under the Biden administration on X/Twitter for failing to act on information related to the "Lunatic" who shot him in Butler, Pennsylvania. He claimed that much of the relevant information had been missing, altered, or corrupted by the time he took office on January 20th. Trump staunchly maintained his belief that the entire incident was a "Democrat Plot" aimed at removing him from the election, a claim he deemed unsuccessful.

Trump also expressed his dissatisfaction with former FBI Director Christopher Wray, whom he had appointed during his first term but later developed strong animosity towards. Trump called for Wray to "pay a price" for the FBI's handling of the assassination attempt and for Wray's statements in general. Blanche, who served as Trump's personal lawyer during the case, confirmed that he was present during the investigation into the shooting, striving to understand the events that unfolded.

Both the Justice Department and the FBI declined to comment on the new information at the time of the briefing, and Wray could not be reached for comment.
