Netflix Announces Adaptations Of A Few Sega IPs Including Crazy Taxi

Netflix has inked a deal with Sega to bring several of the gaming giant's intellectual properties to life via live-action adaptations. The first on the list is the game Crazy Taxi, with Sonic and Stranger Than Heaven, an upcoming title serving as a prequel to the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series, also in development. Netflix shared that the adaptation of Crazy Taxi will be a live-action project, with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand set to pen the script, both having previously worked on the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun.

These writers will aim to capture the game's chaotic and comedic essence for the adaptation. The duo is joined by Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara, who are credited as the visionary producers behind the Sonic franchise. Following Crazy Taxi, Netflix is developing an animated series centered around Sonic, designed for a young pre-school audience.

This series promises to be high-voltage, comedic, yet emotionally grounded, catering to kids seeking a bit of edge, attitude, and crew camaraderie. Currently, this project is in the development stage, with Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara at the helm. Stranger Than Heaven, another game not yet released, is slated for a 15 January 2027 release.

Consequently, the adaptation of this game is expected to follow suit, with Netflix keeping details under wraps until the game is officially launched.
