Neena Gupta recalls being fired after makers got Archana Puran Singh: ‘They lied to me’

Neena Gupta, a veteran actress in Hindi cinema, recently revealed in an interview that she was fired from the popular 1990s sitcom Shriman Shrimati after Archana Puran Singh went on maternity leave. Despite not receiving the limelight she felt she deserved during her early career, Neena never imagined she would be replaced without any prior notice.

The show, which ran for nearly four years, featured notable actors like Archana, Rakesh Bedi, Reema Lagoo, and Jatin Kanakia. When Archana became pregnant and went on maternity leave, Neena was brought in as a new character named Sapna. She was informed that Archana would not return to the show, and she agreed to take on the role as she understood the difficulty of replacing a successful actor like Archana.

However, when Archana eventually rejoined the show, the makers brought her back without informing Neena. Neena expressed her disappointment, stating that the producers and director were at fault for lying to her, and this was the first time she was speaking up about the incident.
