Nashik: DRI Seizes 362 Tonnes Of Pakistani-Origin Dry Dates From 13 Containers

In Nashik, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) made a significant bust, seizing 13 containers filled with over 362 metric tonnes of dry dates during a Container Freight Station (CFS) operation in Ambad. The total value of the seized consignment is estimated to be around ₹3 crore. Authorities claim that the goods were being smuggled into India by falsely declaring their origin as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) instead of Pakistan.

According to initial findings, the consignment is believed to have originated in Karachi, Pakistan, before making its way through Jebel Ali Port in the UAE before being sent to India. The DRI investigation discovered inconsistencies in shipping and container records, suggesting the goods' true Pakistani roots. The interception was based on intelligence inputs and was scrutinized by DRI officials at the Nashik facility.

This action is part of 'Operation Deep Manifest,' a government initiative aimed at thwarting attempts to evade restrictions on importing Pakistani-origin goods. Since the Indian government imposed restrictions on imports from Pakistan, authorities have been vigilant in monitoring consignments suspected of being routed through third countries.

Now, the DRI is investigating the importer, intermediaries, and other individuals or entities potentially involved in the scheme. The extent of further action will hinge on the outcomes of the comprehensive investigation.
