Naqvi did not object to India’s refusal to collect Women’s Asia Cup trophy, claims BCCI official

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla clarified on Monday that Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had not raised any objections when the Indian women’s team declined to collect the Asia Cup trophy from him. The incident occurred during the Women’s Asia Cup final in Dubai where India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs.

Shukla stated that the decision not to accept the trophy was a collective decision made by the BCCI, and Naqvi, who is also Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, did not object to it. The BCCI had informed their team about the decision, and Naqvi presented the trophy to whoever he had to and then left. Shukla defended his vice president's interaction with Naqvi, describing it as routine and not indicative of a change in BCCI's stance.

The controversy arose as criticism mounted over Shukla and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia's interaction with Naqvi despite India's decision to shun him during the trophy presentation. The BCCI's policy since the May 2025 military conflict with Pakistan includes avoiding handshakes with Pakistani officials and declining to accept trophies from them during major bilateral encounters.

This stance was prominently displayed during the 2025 Asia Cup when the Indian men's team also refused to shake hands with Pakistan players and declined to receive the trophy from Naqvi.
