Mumbai Water Stock Rises To 97.94%, City's 7 Lakes Hold 14.17 Lakh ML Stock

Mumbai's seven reservoirs have reached 97.94% of their total useful live storage capacity, according to the latest report from the Hydraulic Engineer's Department. This marks a 0.46 percentage point increase from the day before. Collectively, the seven lakes hold 14,17,584 million litres (ML) of water, against a combined useful live storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML.

Bhatsa, Vehar, and Tulsi reservoirs are at 100% of their useful live storage capacity, while Tansa is at 98.69%, Middle Vaitarna is at 97.57%, Modak Sagar has 93.24%, and Upper Vaitarna has the lowest stock at 93.63%. Rainfall in the catchment areas of the reservoirs over the past 24 hours contributed to the increase in water stock.

Upper Vaitarna recorded 5 mm, Modak Sagar received 11 mm, Tansa recorded 2 mm, Middle Vaitarna had 6 mm, and Bhatsa received 6 mm. The combined useful storage of Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, and Middle Vaitarna stands at 6,64,803 ML, or 95.71% of their combined capacity of 6,94,582 ML. Comparatively, the current water stock is slightly lower than the same period in previous years.

Vehar and Tulsi started overflowing in July, while Tansa began overflowing in mid-July and Modak Sagar in late July. With nearly 98% of their useful storage capacity now filled, Mumbai's water supply situation remains secure as the monsoon approaches its final stages.
