Mexico City-area airports to halt takeoffs and landings for 4 hours tomorrow

On Wednesday, September 16, the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will halt all takeoffs and landings for a four-hour period, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This action is taken to ensure the safety of military aircraft during the Independence Day parade, which will take place in the city's airspace.

The Mexican Navy, which operates AICM, announced the suspension in a statement. The Independence Day parade is set to start at 10 a.m., featuring a flyover of nearly 100 Air Force and National Guard airplanes and helicopters above Mexico City's central square, the Zócalo. The ground procession will include a route from the Zócalo, passing the Palacio de Bellas Artes, continuing along Juárez Avenue and Paseo de la Reforma, and concluding at the Campo Marte military complex near Chapultepec Park.

Military aircraft will take off from the Santa Lucía Air Force Base, which is adjacent to AIFA. Travelers with flights scheduled for Wednesday are advised to check with their airlines regarding any changes to their flight plans due to this event.
