MediaTek Launches New Dimensity 9600 Pro Chipset

MediaTek has unveiled its newest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9600 Pro. This cutting-edge chip is built using TSMC's 2nm process node. MediaTek touts the Dimensity 9600 Pro as its most potent and efficient AI chip to date. The 2nm design incorporates 4th generation All-Big Core CPUs in a 2+3+3 arrangement, featuring two ARM C2-Ultra processors, three ARM C2-Pro chips with 1MB L2 Cache each, and three ARM C2-Pro chips with 512KB L2 Cache.

Performance-wise, MediaTek asserts that the Dimensity 9600 Pro is 17% quicker and 37% more power-efficient in single-core performance compared to its predecessor. Multi-core performance is 15% faster and 61% more energy-efficient. The chipset also boasts a novel dual-NPU architecture, featuring a second-generation Super Efficient NPU 1090. This advanced NPU promises 51% higher LLM prefill performance and 55% higher Token generation compared to its predecessor, thanks to its Agentic AI capabilities.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro is underpinned by a new AI Computing Fusion Architecture. It supports LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. The chip is equipped with an upgraded Dimensity Scheduling Engine, enabling more efficient resource allocation. On the graphics front, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is powered by the G2-Ultra NX GPU. MediaTek claims this GPU delivers up to 27% higher peak performance, consumes 24% less power, and provides up to 18% faster ray tracing performance, enabling high "console-grade" gaming on a mobile device at up to 185 fps.

The vivo X500 pro is anticipated to be one of the first devices to run on the new Dimensity 9600 Pro. This chipset is set to launch via brand partners' phones this year. Additionally, MediaTek introduced the 9600M, a slightly less powerful variant of the Pro, which still features an Agentic AI Engine and the Dimensity Scheduling Engine.
