Massachusetts governor proposes improved postpartum healthcare after Lindsay Clancy trial

Governor Maura Healey of Massachusetts proposed enhanced postpartum healthcare for new parents following the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, which her legal team argued was due to unresolved postpartum psychosis. Healey suggested free home visits by nurses for all parents with newborns and updated regulations for mental health screening of new mothers.

Clancy's attorneys claimed she should not be held criminally responsible for the 2023 killings of her three children, while prosecutors sought a guilty verdict. A mistrial was declared after jurors could not agree on a verdict. Healey plans to seek $2 million for a program offering home visits to all families welcoming around 68,000 newborns annually in Massachusetts.

No participation is mandatory, but participating families would receive nurse visits to discuss infant care and monitor maternal health, including depression screening.
