Marine Corps hosts event marking 76th anniv. of Incheon Landing Operation

On Tuesday, the Marine Corps honored the 76th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation, a significant amphibious assault conducted during the Korean War, officials announced. The commemoration, jointly organized by Incheon city authorities, was held in the city that bore witness to the historic event, situated west of Seoul.

This marked the first time since 2010 that the Marine Corps had hosted the event, which had previously been managed by the Navy. Recently, the Marine Corps assumed the responsibility, as part of a broader military reorganization, to restore operational control of its two Marine divisions from the Army. The ceremony featured a reenactment of the operation, a critical maneuver that thwarted the advance of North Korean forces.

The September 1950 launch of the Incheon Landing Operation, under the leadership of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur, was instrumental in halting the North Korean invasion. Approximately 1,000 attendees, comprising Marine Corps Commandant Lieutenant General Ju Il-suk, Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae, and Joseph Hilbert, gathered to pay tribute to the servicemen who sacrificed their lives in this pivotal moment of the Korean War.
