Marine Corps hosts event marking 76th anniv. of Incheon Landing Operation

On Tuesday, the Marine Corps honored the 76th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation, a crucial amphibious assault executed by South Korean and American forces during the Korean War. The ceremony, co-sponsored by the city of Incheon, was held in the city bearing the name of the event, located west of Seoul, to pay tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This marked the first time since 2010 that the Marine Corps organized the event, as it aims to regain operational control of its two Marine divisions from the Army as part of a military modernization initiative.

The event featured a reenactment of the landing, a key maneuver that played a vital role in pushing back the advancing North Korean forces. Commanded by U.S. General Douglas MacArthur, the Incheon Landing took place in September of 1950 and was instrumental in the early stages of the war. The commemoration, attended by approximately 1,000 people, included high-ranking officials such as Marine Corps Commandant Lieutenant General Ju Il-suk, Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae, and Joseph Hilbert.
