LTA introduces new lodgement service for heavy vehicle overnight parking from Sep 15, giving owners more flexibility under VPC scheme

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is set to launch a new lodgement service for heavy vehicles to park overnight starting September 15, 2026. This enhancement to the existing Vehicle Parking Certificate (VPC) scheme aims to provide more flexibility for heavy vehicle owners who need to park vehicles outside of designated licensed spaces between midnight and 6 a.m. The current VPC scheme, introduced in 1994, requires heavy vehicle owners to park in licensed lots during these hours to secure road tax, transfer ownership, or register new vehicles.

LTA acknowledges that the industry has provided feedback requesting more flexibility in overnight parking arrangements to better accommodate evolving operational needs. The new lodgement service will allow heavy vehicle owners to park their vehicles at private and non-residential locations such as industrial facilities, authorized worksites, and commercial properties that are not specifically designated as licensed parking areas.

Owners can lodge their parking locations through the OneMotoring Digital Service and provide proof of consent from the premises owner. Each lodgement can be valid for up to two years without incurring any fees.

Upon a successful lodgement, owners will receive a letter of acknowledgement from LTA, indicating they have met the VPC overnight parking requirements for registering new vehicles, transferring ownership, or renewing road tax. The lodgement service applies to heavy goods vehicles and concrete mixers weighing over 5,000 kg, as well as buses accommodating more than 15 passengers, excluding the driver. Trailers are currently undergoing a separate trial to suspend the VPC requirement from February 6, 2026.

Owners utilizing the lodgement service must ensure their parking arrangements comply with existing rules and do not cause public nuisances or safety hazards. Parking heavy vehicles on public roads or in residential areas remains prohibited. Non-compliance with the lodgement requirements will result in the revocation of the lodgement. LTA and relevant authorities will intensify enforcement efforts against indiscriminate parking of heavy vehicles along public roads.

This new lodgement service is part of broader efforts to keep the VPC scheme relevant and responsive to industry needs. LTA and the government will continue to review the scheme and facilitate additional parking spaces for heavy vehicles as necessary.
