Künstliche Intelligenz: Staatssekretär: Europa droht bei KI zum Zuschauer zu werden

Staatssekretär Thomas Jarzombek warns that Europe risks becoming a spectator in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) due to excessive focus on regulation. In an interview with West German Radio (WDR 5), Jarzombek emphasized that Europe must also harness the potential of this technology. He noted that the current discussion on AI dangers reveals that the USA and China are the dominant players, and Europe's lack of powerful AI models leaves it in a weak position.

The EU has created very complicated regulatory frameworks through its AI Act, which has not resulted in an influx of AI developers to the continent. Additionally, major industry has failed to invest sufficiently in European data centers, which Jarzombek sees as crucial for sovereignty in this area. While the EU's Gigafactory initiative brings some benefits, he stressed that it remains complex and slow.

Industry is called upon to create demand now by awarding contracts, so that major players like Deutsche Telekom and Schwarz can build the necessary data centers in Germany and Europe. Deutsche Telekom plans a large-scale expansion and operation of data centers, following Schwarz Group's recent announcement of a billion-euro data center near Rostock.
