Kirk Herbstreit rips AP voters for dropping Ohio State to No. 6: 'I don't agree with it'

Following Ohio State's heartbreaking 24-23 loss to Texas on Saturday, September 12, the Buckeyes plummeted from No. 1 to No. 6 in the Associated Press poll. Former Ohio State quarterback and prominent college football voice Kirk Herbstreit expressed his dissatisfaction with the AP voters' decision, stating on his podcast on Monday, September 14, that the drop was too severe.

Herbstreit emphasized that while the loss was disappointing, a defeat to a top-five opponent should not warrant such a significant fall. He pointed out that Ohio State was dominating the game in the third quarter, leading 23-3 before Texas staged a remarkable comeback.

Texas climbed to No. 1 in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 following their victory, while Ohio State dropped to No. 6 in both polls. The Buckeyes also fell to No. 6 in the Coaches Poll, trailing Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana, and Miami. Despite the loss, Ohio State outgained Texas by 372-336 points and held the Longhorns to a mere 4.3 yards per play. Herbstreit believes that the outdated polling method used by the AP voters is illogical and should be reconsidered.
