Kenya: Ruto Hails Nairobi's 2029 World Athletics Win, Says 32 Stadiums Are Under Construction

Nairobi, Kenya, has been chosen to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, marking the first time an African city will host the prestigious event. World Athletics announced the decision on September 15, 2026, confirming Nairobi as the host city for the 2029 championships, while Munich, Germany, was awarded the 2031 edition.

This milestone underscores Kenya's distinguished reputation in distance running and the city's strong athletics tradition. World Athletics President, Sebastian Coe, commended Nairobi's bid, emphasizing the significance of bringing the championship to Africa for the first time.
