Kalonzo welcomes Uhuru’s decision to relinquish Jubilee leadership

Nairobi, Kenya – On September 15, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka expressed his approval of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to step down as the leader of the Jubilee Party. This move comes after a recent High Court ruling. In a statement, Kalonzo praised Uhuru's acceptance of the court's judgment as a display of statesmanship, suggesting it should set an example for political conduct in Kenya.

Uhuru had announced his intention to relinquish the Jubilee Party presidency following the court's decision. Kalonzo affirmed the Azimio's support for Uhuru's stance, emphasizing that his willingness to adhere to the court's ruling exemplifies the qualities Kenyans hold dear in their leaders. He further stated that the party's leadership succession should be managed by the party's bodies in a systematic and lawful manner.

However, Kalonzo made it clear that Uhuru's role as Chairman of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Council is distinct from his leadership of the Jubilee Party. The Azimio Council operates independently and would be governed by the law in any disputes related to its leadership. Kalonzo also clarified that the Azimio would not speak on Uhuru's behalf concerning his position in the Council.

As political parties gear up for the 2027 General Election, the issue of party leadership and coalition structures has become a focal point of discussions.
