Jharkhand Recruitment Exam Row: CID Arrests Two, Including Coaching Centre Operator

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) apprehended two individuals connected to alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment examinations, an official disclosed on Tuesday. The first suspect, Dilip Kumar Paswan, a resident of Bihar's Jamui district, was taken into custody for allegedly providing unfair advantages to numerous candidates in the JSSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination-2023.

Paswan's arrest brings the total number of people apprehended by the CID in connection with the alleged irregularities to 13. Concurrently, the agency also arrested a coaching centre operator named Sanjit Kumar in Ranchi over the same allegations. Kumar, residing on Ratu Road in Ranchi's Sukhdeo Nagar police station area, was apprehended and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

The coaching centre operator, who runs a Shivangan Coaching business, was operating as an agent during the recruitment examinations. Over 20 individuals, including former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman L Khiangte, have been arrested by the CID in connection with the case, with Khiangte being apprehended on August 10.

The JSSC-CGL examination irregularities have sparked protests since July 25, as job aspirants demanded the cancellation of the JPSC and JSSC examinations and a CBI probe into the alleged misconduct. The state government eventually announced the cancellation of several recruitment exams, including the JSSC-CGL-2023, following the public agitation.

However, the Jharkhand High Court stayed the government's decision after a petition was filed by successful candidates.
