Jefferson Sackey’s ‘Purpose’ reveals bold decision to leave Foreign Affairs Ministry for politics

Veteran journalist Jefferson Sackey has unveiled the pivotal moment that led him to abandon his role in the Foreign Affairs Ministry and pursue a career in politics in his new memoir, ‘Purpose’. Speaking at the book launch, Mr Sackey revealed his emotional decision to follow then-Foreign Affairs Minister Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo into active politics after the latter left the government in 2007.

This memoir chronicles Mr Sackey’s long-standing career in Ghana’s media landscape, his influential interviews with prominent figures, and his front-row view of significant events. He emphasizes the emotional weight of his choice, stating, "I took a very bold decision that I would want to follow my boss into the world of politics."

The memoir also highlights the changing dynamics of the media industry and provides insights into his journey in journalism. Mr Sackey, who encourages young journalists to continually enhance their skills, is also committed to empowering the next generation of African journalists. He announced the founding of the African Media and Democratic Foundation, which will mentor and train young journalists across the continent, with the profits from ‘Purpose’ supporting its mentorship program.
