Janet Asana Nabla criticises Mahama over China curriculum controversy involving Haruna Iddrisu

Presidential hopeful Janet Asana Nabla has publicly criticized President John Dramani Mahama regarding his handling of a dispute involving Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu over the potential introduction of Chinese language and culture into Ghana's educational curriculum. In a video posted on her TikTok page on September 14, 2026, Nabla accused Mahama of publicly berating Iddrisu instead of addressing the disagreement privately.

The controversy stems from a video circulating on social media where Mahama allegedly responded to the Education Minister's concerns about the proposed curriculum changes. Nabla argued that even if Iddrisu's comments were inaccurate, Mahama should have discussed the matter with him privately before addressing it publicly. Nabla defended Iddrisu's contributions to the NDC and Mahama's return to power, stating that the Education Minister had been instrumental in the party's victory and did not deserve public humiliation over the curriculum controversy.

Nabla questioned why Mahama could not have invited Iddrisu for a private conversation to clarify the government's stance on the proposed curriculum changes. She suggested that Mahama could have first engaged Iddrisu privately and then worked with him to explain the government's position to Ghanaians. Nabla further criticized the President's treatment of other former parliamentary colleagues, citing Dr. Rashid Pelpuo's experience with being informed about his removal from office in an inappropriate manner.

Nabla described Mahama's handling of his former colleagues as "shameful" and accused him of poor leadership, questioning why people who supported Mahama before his return to power should be treated differently after his election victory.
