I've engaged NCCE, GBC to provide live coverage of MMDA meetings - Ayariga

Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has teamed up with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to provide live coverage of General Assembly and Town Hall meetings at Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), according to a recent Facebook post.

The Minister revealed that this initiative aligns with the provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and is designed to bolster transparency, accountability and citizen engagement in local governance. By broadcasting the proceedings of these meetings, Ayariga hopes to improve access to local government discussions and decision-making processes for citizens.

The Minister expressed optimism that this initiative will not only increase public interest in the upcoming District-Level Elections but also encourage more citizens to participate actively in the decentralisation process. He believes that these live broadcasts will serve as a catalyst for greater public involvement and engagement in the decentralisation process within Ghana.

Ayariga emphasized that this collaboration represents a broader effort to promote openness and responsiveness within Ghana's local governance institutions. By working together with the NCCE and GBC, he stated that they can build more transparent, accountable, and responsive local institutions.
