Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi to visit China for second time since Middle East war started

Beijing is set to host a visit by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later this week, as reported by China’s foreign ministry on Tuesday. The meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday, will follow a previous encounter between the two ministers at the BRICS conference in Delhi. The talks will focus on resolving Iran’s ongoing conflict with the United States, with China playing a significant role as a major economic partner to Iran and a key diplomatic supporter.

This diplomatic visit comes just a week before Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to travel to Washington to meet with President Donald Trump. The Iran conflict is expected to be a primary topic during Trump’s visit, alongside other pressing issues such as trade and AI technology competition. Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi denied recent reports alleging that Chinese entities had supplied Tehran with satellite images of a military base in Jordan housing U.S. troops, which were revealed in the Wall Street Journal earlier this week.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, firmly rejected these unsubstantiated allegations, stating that such baseless accusations would only serve to escalate tensions between China and the United States. The recent warnings from President Trump, who has cautioned China against supplying weapons to Iran, have only heightened the potential for increased friction between the two global powers as they prepare for Xi’s upcoming meeting with Trump.
