In Punjab debut, Sachin Pilot takes fight to AAP over Dalit man’s death

Sachin Pilot, the newly appointed Congress AICC general secretary for Punjab, led a protest march on Tuesday demanding Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema's resignation and arrest for abetment to suicide related to the death of daily wage laborer Gulzar Singh. The angry mob, composed of Congress workers including former MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, was initially stopped by a large police force.

Water cannons were utilized to disperse the protesters as they attempted to breach barricades, resulting in injuries to several Congress leaders. Pilot, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, and other top leaders were subsequently arrested. The Congress alleged that Gulzar Singh was driven to suicide after facing harassment and casteist slurs for questioning Cheema about drug availability in his area.

A video of his final moments, where he referred to Cheema, has further fueled the political conflict.
