I’m not Makinde’s surrogate, says Oyo APM gov candidate

Abimbola Adekanmbi, the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State, has clarified that he is not a surrogate for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. In an interview on Arise News, Adekanmbi, a former Commissioner for Finance, affirmed that he has his own manifesto and strategy for governing the state. He emphasized his readiness to bear the responsibility for his decisions and actions should he be elected, stating he was prepared to chart his own course distinct from the incumbent governor's liabilities.

"I am not a surrogate to Governor Makinde. The governor made it clear that I should not inherit his enemies or liabilities," Adekanmbi stated. He added that he would own every action he undertakes as governor, mirroring his consistent ownership of actions in his personal life. Adekanmbi also commented on the process behind the emergence of candidates for various elective positions, noting it was not a unilateral decision by the governor.

Instead, it involved consultations and public engagements, with contributions from different sectors and regions across Oyo State. He clarified that all the candidates, including those for the governorship, senatorial, and legislative positions, emerged through a consensus process.
