‘House raided without warrant’: Supreme Court declines to entertain ex-Mayor plea seeking FIR against cops

The Supreme Court declined on Tuesday to entertain a plea by ex-Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri, who sought an FIR against Ghaziabad police for allegedly raiding his home without a warrant while searching for YouTuber Abhishek Upadhyay. The three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, also refused to lay down guidelines for inter-state police search operations.

Suri's lawyer argued that inter-state searches without warrants required guidelines, but the court dismissed this concern. Uttar Pradesh's Additional Advocate General, Sharan Thakur, dismissed the petition as "completely misconceived" and said the petitioner could file a complaint under the new law. Thakur explained that the police had been looking for Upadhyay in connection with a road rage case, but did not enter Suri's home and only left after he refused to speak with them.
