House Democrats pitch energy plan ahead of the midterms

Nine Democrats in the US House of Representatives unveiled an energy and environmental "policy blueprint for 2027" with a focus on affordability, as midterm elections approach. The Thriving Economy Project report is a compilation of over 800 policy recommendations across a range of topics, including data centers, energy security, agriculture, and manufacturing, making it the most comprehensive energy platform Democrats have presented in years.

The blueprint includes ideas that already possess bipartisan support, as well as others that are unlikely to become law even if Democrats regain control of Congress. Rep. Sean Casten, D-Ill., remarked to Semafor that it is "very rare that energy policy is a salient issue in the electorate." The primary goal, Casten explained, is to provide "a lot of well-vetted solutions" to ensure that new and returning lawmakers have a clear path to fulfill their campaign promises.

Policies concerning nuclear energy and research and development are more likely to garner bipartisan support, according to Casten. However, disagreements over extractive industries are expected to persist as a significant obstacle.
