Hong Kong’s MTR Corp announces half-price fares for ‘Thank You Day’ on October 24

MTR Corporation, the leading rail operator in Hong Kong, has announced that passengers will enjoy half-price fares on October 24 as part of a "Thank You Day". This discount is set to apply to various modes of transportation operated by the corporation, including railway, Light Rail, bus services in the northwestern New Territories, and heavy rail network.

Passengers using Octopus and JoyYou cards will also benefit from the discounted fares on cross-border journeys to and from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations on the East Rail line.

The promotional day is part of MTR's service performance rebate arrangement, which offers discounted fares on a specific day once the rebate fund reaches a certain threshold. In this case, the discount will be applied if the fund reaches HK$25 million. The promotion comes with additional perks, such as the ability to combine the half-fare discount with interchange and fare saver discounts.

Furthermore, passengers holding a monthly pass can enjoy a 25% discount on connecting journeys, while eligible elderly passengers and those with disabilities will receive an additional HK$2 (25 US cents) fare concession.

However, there are certain services that will not be covered under the discount, including East Rail first class, Airport Express, MTR Feeder Bus services, single-journey tickets, contactless card payments, and the Hong Kong section of the High Speed Rail. To ensure a smooth experience for passengers, MTR Corporation plans to deploy additional staff at MTR stations, closely monitor train and station operations, and make necessary adjustments to train service and manpower arrangements if required.
