HBL Microfinance Bank & SUPARCO Expand Satellite-Enabled Agri-Financing in Punjab

HBL Microfinance Bank (HBL MfB) and the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) have joined forces to expand their Climate-Smart Agri-Financing initiative in Punjab. This partnership aims to revolutionize agricultural finance by integrating satellite data intelligence and technology-driven risk assessment, moving from pilot implementation to province-wide coverage.

The initiative leverages SUPARCO's expertise in satellite-based remote-sensing and HBL MfB's ground-level agricultural financing experience. This collaboration allows HBL MfB to utilize satellite data for crop monitoring and remote-sensing analytics, improving the resilience of its agricultural portfolio. Speaking on the occasion, HBL MfB President & CEO Amir Khan highlighted the critical role of Pakistani farmers in climate change, stressing the importance of informed, timely, and context-aware financing decisions.

SUPARCO, in turn, emphasized its decades of experience in agricultural monitoring through satellite technology and the development of machine learning and deep learning models that generate accurate insights through a Geo-AI platform. This collaboration aims to create an analytical engine supporting HBL MfB's agri-lending system, enhancing farm-level risk assessment and post-loan monitoring.

Moreover, SUPARCO will make agricultural intelligence accessible to the public through the Space4Climate portal, fostering greater resilience across Pakistan's agricultural sector.
