In a joint operation by the General Operations Force (GOF), over RM1.9 million worth of smuggled cigarettes were seized in Klang on Wednesday. The raid, part of Operation Taring Alpha 1, was conducted by the GOF's 4th Battalion intelligence branch in Semenyih in collaboration with the North Klang District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD). At 4:30 PM, the operation targeted a property in Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang.
During the raid, a 52-year-old male suspect, suspected of being the courier for the untaxed cigarettes supply, was apprehended. As a result, the police confiscated 4,920 cartons of various types and brands of untaxed cigarettes and a Nissan Almera car, valued at around RM1.9 million. All the seized goods, including the suspect and the cigarettes, were taken to the Klang Utara district police headquarters for further investigation under the Customs Act 1967.
The GOF commander, Supt Amanjit Singh, urged the local community to continue cooperating and providing any information about illegal activities in their area.
