GhIE Launches Engineering Excellence Awards 2026

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has initiated the Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) 2026 to acknowledge exceptional engineering work, foster innovation, and elevate professional standards for national progress. The awards, held at the Engineering Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra, under the theme "Celebrating Engineering Excellence for a Resilient and Prosperous Ghana," serve as a national platform for engineers, researchers, students, and organizations to exhibit innovative solutions and their societal impact.

GhIE President Ludwig Annang Hesse emphasized that the awards are more than a ceremony; they symbolize a renewed commitment to engineering excellence and public service. Previously a part of the Institution's annual Engineering Week banquet, the EEA was repositioned in 2025–2027 strategic focus due to limited national visibility and impact.

Amendments to the constitution and by-laws, along with the formation of a Research, Innovation and Excellence Standing Committee, enabled the awards to become a separate national program. In a statement read by Isaac Bedu, the Registrar of the Engineering Council of Ghana, on behalf of the Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, government pledged its dedication to enhancing local engineering capacity, encouraging local content, and deepening collaboration among academia, industry, and professional practice.

The Minister also called upon senior engineers to mentor younger professionals. The categories for the awards encompass professional excellence, emerging talent, women in engineering, lifetime achievement, education, research, entrepreneurship and student projects, as well as innovation in sustainable engineering, AI, robotics, automation, digitalization, and intellectual property.

Nominations are open to individuals, self-nominations, and third parties, with submissions due by September 30, 2026.
