Flydubai fleet to cross 100 aircraft as it launches cabin retrofit programme

Dubai-based airline Flydubai is set to expand its fleet to over 100 planes this year, with 11 new aircraft already confirmed. The carrier will receive seven Boeing 737-9 Max and four Boeing 737-8 Max jets, enhancing its capacity for premium travel. The 737-9 Max variant boasts 16 business class and 156 economy seats, compared to 10 business class seats on some 737-8 Max aircraft.

CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith highlighted that the new aircraft will help Flydubai meet growing demand for business class on key international routes while optimizing capacity across existing flight frequencies. The airline's fleet modernisation strategy aims to replace older aircraft and maintain one of the youngest, most fuel-efficient fleets in the industry.

In addition to the fleet expansion, Flydubai has launched a cabin retrofit programme, beginning this month. Of the 21 Boeing 737 Max aircraft fitted with recliner business class seats, 21 will undergo a transformation to lie-flat seats within the next year. The retrofit will also introduce larger overhead bins, accommodating up to six standard-sized bags compared to four in existing bins.

This upgrade aims to expand cabin baggage capacity for passengers. Flydubai's commitment to enhancing its product offering extends beyond aircraft, as the carrier invests in premium services, technology, training, and engineering infrastructure. The airline previously introduced a business class lounge at Dubai International Airport and recently placed orders for 150 Airbus A321 Neos and 75 Boeing 737 Max aircraft at the Dubai Airshow.
