‘Explain reason behind road project relocation’ – Kwankwasiyya challenges Kano govt

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called upon the Kano State Government to provide an explanation for the attempted suspension and relocation of a federal constituency road project in the Ungogo/Minjibir Federal Constituency. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the movement's spokesperson, Dr Habib Mai Lemo, raised concerns about potential political interference in development projects.

Mai Lemo questioned whether opposition lawmakers' facilitated projects receive special treatment, stating that residents should not be deprived of essential services like roads, schools, or healthcare facilities based on the political affiliation of the sponsoring lawmaker. The movement urged the government to demonstrate that the same criteria apply uniformly to all federal constituency projects in Kano, irrespective of the political party of the supporting lawmaker.

Additionally, Kwankwasiyya expressed apprehension over the suspension of three councillors in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, alleging that the accusations against them are unfounded. The movement also cited the suspension of two councillors from Tarauni Local Government Area, claiming that their actions were motivated by their continued support for the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Mai Lemo emphasized that if proven true, these actions would constitute a severe violation of democratic principles. The movement further criticized threats against political commentators and opposition supporters, advocating for an independent investigation into the suspended councillors' cases, equal treatment for federal constituency projects throughout Kano, and the safeguarding of constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, association, and political participation.
