Mali’s Tuareg separatists are reaching out for talks with Turkey, revealing their links with Russian military units. Mohamed Elmaouloud Ramadane, a spokesperson for the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), disclosed this exclusive information to Middle East Eye. The separatist group is fighting alongside the terrorist organization Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), both seeking different outcomes – an independent Tuareg state versus the overthrow of the Malian government.
The FLA has been in contact with Russia’s Africa Corps, but insists these exchanges are not for political negotiations. They urge Turkey, which has been strengthening ties with Mali, to engage in dialogue and consider the complexities of the situation beyond the current government's perspective.
