‘Enough of condolence messages; do something or step aside’ — Plateau residents blast Mutfwang over killings

Residents of Plateau State have expressed frustration towards Governor Caleb Mutfwang over the recent spate of violent attacks and killings in the region. The governor was recently quoted condemning the killings and reaffirming his administration's commitment to peace and security. However, many residents feel that the governor's words are empty as the state continues to witness a high number of casualties in attacks by suspected Fulani extremists and local militia gangs.

Following a lethal weekend between September 11 and 13, when about 21 people were reportedly killed in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Jos South Local Government Areas, Mutfwang's administration was criticized for its lack of proactive measures to address the escalating violence. Residents argue that the governor should be concentrating on implementing tangible solutions instead of offering scripted condolences every time innocent lives are lost.

Several callers to a radio program expressed their disappointment with the governor's handling of security issues in the state. Nanle Bamshak, a social activist, accused Mutfwang of neglecting his duties to focus on his re-election campaign for 2027. Peter Alamba and Polycarp Bitrus echoed similar sentiments, stating that the people of Plateau have grown tired of the governor's rhetorical statements and empty promises.

They emphasized the need for concrete actions to curb the cycle of violence and killings, rather than relying on scripted statements and assurances.
