Emmanuel Forbes Jr.'s lack of snaps raises questions about Rams secondary

During the Los Angeles Rams' season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. failed to see a single defensive snap, raising concerns about his role in the team's secondary. This was unexpected given that he had been included in training camp and joint practices. However, Kam Curl's injury led to Jaylen McCollough assuming even more defensive responsibilities, prompting Josh Wallace to replace Forbes and play seven snaps.

This move seems to suggest that the Rams are utilizing Wallace as a depth option and potentially treating Forbes as a backup. Forbes had been the Rams' primary outside corner last season, performing well against top opponents. When Forbes was not on the field, the Rams appeared vulnerable in their defense. With McCollough having to account for more snaps, it appears that Trent McDuffie has been moved inside, leaving Forbes sidelined.

If Forbes remains out, the Rams may struggle to defend against formidable offenses like that of the New York Giants, who presented significant challenges for the 49ers. Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely could provide challenges for opposing offenses, but Forbes' presence could help alleviate some of those pressures on McDuffie. The Rams might need to consider trading Forbes or finding a solution for his absence to maintain a competitive secondary.
