Emergency Alert Issued for Residents of Makkah After Yemen Strikes

Saudi Arabia dispatched emergency alerts to residents and visitors of Makkah, Jeddah, and Taif on Tuesday, warning of a "potential danger" following intensifying assaults by Yemen’s Houthi group. The alerts were disseminated through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, with the Saudi Civil Defense advising the public to remain composed, seek refuge, and adhere to official safety directives.

The specific nature of the threat was not immediately disclosed by authorities. The alerts were subsequently lifted, with Civil Defense stating the hazard had expired in Makkah, urging citizens to abide by ongoing official instructions. Residents were directed to evacuate to the nearest secure location, ideally within a structure or an interior room distant from windows.

Individuals were also cautioned to avoid open spaces, balconies, and rooftops. Those outdoors were instructed to enter the nearest building or seek protection behind a sturdy barrier. Motorists alerted were instructed to pull over away from bridges and high-rise buildings. These alerts emerged after Houthi forces discharged ballistic missiles and drones at multiple Saudi cities, including Taif, Khamis Mushait, and Abha.

Saudi authorities reported that 13 civilians sustained injuries and seven residences and two vehicles sustained damage during Monday’s assaults. The latest alerts represent the first such warning for Makkah since the recent intensification involving the Houthis, according to Saudi Civil Defense.
