Education Ministry to review CSSPS after current placement exercise

The Ghanaian Ministry of Education has announced plans to conduct a thorough review of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) following the latest placement exercise. This decision comes in response to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference urging for enhanced transparency, accountability and a possible evaluation of the system.

According to a statement released on September 15, 2026, the Ministry maintains that CSSPS operates on a merit-based principle, prioritizing merit over protocol in placing qualified candidates. The system is designed to ensure that placement decisions are based on established criteria and that qualified students receive fair treatment.

However, the Ministry acknowledges the necessity to continuously enhance and fortify the placement system. The Technical Working Committee will scrutinize the various elements of CSSPS, pinpointing areas needing improvement and suggesting measures to bolster transparency and accountability. The review aims to ensure the system remains credible, efficient, fair, and responsive to students, parents, and schools.

The Ministry emphasizes that CSSPS placement is free and strongly advises parents and candidates against paying for placement or attempting to alter a placement. It urges anyone with verifiable evidence of anyone demanding payment for placement services to report the matter to law enforcement authorities, assuring that the identity of such reporters will remain confidential.

The Education Ministry reaffirms its dedication to safeguarding the CSSPS's integrity, ensuring that merit, fairness, and transparency remain at the forefront of the placement process.
