Edo seeks UAE investments in agriculture, livestock

The Edo State Government has initiated discussions with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attract investments in agriculture, livestock production, and agro-processing. Governor Monday Okpebholo's aim is to expand the state's economic base beyond traditional means. A delegation from Edo State met with the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al Shamsi, to explore cooperation and potential investment opportunities in Edo State.

The delegation included the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Ohimai Ehijimetor, and several other officials, and discussed Edo's agricultural potential, including oil palm, cocoa, pineapple, maize, and cassava, as well as the livestock sector. The UAE, known for its expertise in food security, agricultural technology, and international investment, is seen as a valuable partner for Edo's agricultural value chains.

The UAE Relations Initiative, including the Nigeria-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, could strengthen economic ties and create new investment channels for Edo. The state government plans to host the Edo International Agricultural and Livestock Investment Summit in Abuja in December to showcase opportunities and attract investors.
