Ed Sheeran Says Dropping Macklemore Was Not His Decision: ‘I Am Not Complicit’

On Tuesday, Ed Sheeran addressed the controversy surrounding the removal of Macklemore from his Loop Tour due to Macklemore's pro-Palestine stance. The singer clarified that the decision to drop Macklemore was made by the promoters, not himself. Sheeran emphasized his commitment to his fans, touring crew, and fellow musicians, stating he would not leave them in the lurch.

Macklemore himself, along with billionaire Robert Kraft, had previously blamed a specific individual for his removal from the tour. Sheeran expressed his dismay over the Israel-Palestine conflict, denouncing the suffering of both sides in the ongoing wars. After Macklemore performed at his New Jersey shows, venues on his subsequent tour dates reportedly threatened to cancel shows if he continued his pro-Palestine messaging.

Sheeran attempted to resolve the issue through discussions with both the venues and promoters, as well as with activists from both sides of the debate. However, despite his efforts, the final decision was made by the venues and promoters, leaving Sheeran with little choice but to remove Macklemore from the Loop Tour.
